Second Wind Dreams is a national, non-profit organization whose goal is to bring seniors to the forefront in our society, by enriching their lives and empowering them to age with dignity.   Ms. Laure Labishak, spokesperson for Second Wind Dreams, talked about the program that
Second Wind Dreams
(2006-2008)
started in 1997 as an individual labor of love for our elders.  Since then, SWD has become involved in over 235 facilities in 40 states, Canada and India.

SWD strives to change society's perception of aging, one dream at a time.  They focus on those living in eldercare communities or who are receiving hospice care.  These are our seniors who need our assistance most.   Family support may be non-existent, money can be at a premium, especially for our Medicaid-supported seniors, who are also often our most frail--the ones who need a dream fulfilled.

SWD believes that the lack of dreams and goals can have physical and mental consequences.  By fulfilling dreams, we improve the quality of these seniors' lives by stimulating them both physically and mentally, while giving them the special attention they deserve.

According, to Ms. Labishak, these older adults and their dreams shine much brighter than anything we will do.  As each dream unfolds, the local community sees the wonder of older adults and understands that each state of life is unique and bountiful.  Often this new perception leads to long-lasting partnerships with facilities, and special relationships with the seniors long after a dream has been fulfilled.  The effects linger, giving all involved a "second wind."

Program information was shared with a local nursing home.

Ms. Labishak is also an accomplished song writer and singer.  She ended her presentation with a song that was felt by every club member present.
